Analysis of sleep EEG signal

Cílem této práce byl vývoj programu pro automatickou detekci arousalu v signálu spánkového EEG s použitím metod časově-frekvenční analýzy. Předmětem studie bylo 13 celonočních polysomnografických nahrávek (čtyři svody EEG, EMG, EKG a EOG), tj. celkově více než 100 hodin záznamu. Jednalo se o část dat z dřívějších výzkumných prací expertní lékařky v problematice spánku Dr. Emilie Sforzy, Ženeva, Švýcarsko, která rovněž poskytla základní hodnocení těchto dat. V záznamech bylo celkem označeno 1551 arousal událostí. Pro usnadnění výběru konkrétní metody časově-frekvenční analýzy byla následně vytvořena sada nástrojů pro vizualizaci jednotlivých signálů a jejich různých časově-frekvenčních vyjádření. S ohledem na závěry vizuální analýzy, charakter signálu EEG a efektivitu výpočetních metod byla pro analýzu vybrána waveletová transformace s mateřskou vlnkou Daubechies řádu 6. Jednotlivé svody EEG byly dekomponovány do šesti frekvenčních pásem. Z takto odvozených signálů a signálu EMG byly následně stanoveny ukazatele možné přítomnosti události arousalu. Tyto ukazatele byly dále váhovány lineárním klasifikátorem, jehož hodnoty vah byly optimalizovány pomocí genetického algoritmu. Na základě hodnoty lineárního klasifikátoru bylo rozhodnuto o přítomnosti události arousalu v daném svodě EEG – arousal byl detekován, jestliže hodnota klasifikátoru překročila danou mez na dobu více než 3 a méně než 30 vteřin. V celém záznamu pak byl arousal označen, byl-li detekován alespoň v jednom ze svodů EEG. Následně byly odvozeny míry senzitivity a selektivity detekce, jež byly rovněž základem pro stanovení fitness funkce genetického algoritmu. Pro učení genetického algoritmu byly vybrány první čtyři záznamy. Na základě takto optimalizovaných vah vznikl program pro automatickou detekci, který na celém souboru 13 záznamů dosáhl ve srovnání s expertním hodnocením míry senzitivity 76,09%, selektivity 53,26% a specificity 97,66%.

Gender, Race, and Class: Intersectional Analysis of Kate Chopin's The Awakening and Selected Short Stories

The objective of this study is to ascertain whether the principles of recent intersectional analyses of Kate Chopin's seminal novel The Awakening may also be applied to Chopin's short fiction and what conclusions would be drawn from such an analysis regarding Chopin's stance on the oppression of minorities. The purpose of an intersectional analysis is to evaluate the specific type of oppression that arises on the intersection of various social categories - the categories considered here are gender, race, and class. Intersectional analysis represents one of the latest methodological approaches regarding the fiction of Kate Chopin, expanding upon the inferences formerly derived by the feminist scholars. The first chapter introduces the concept of intersectionality and describes the changes of Kate Chopin's position in the American literary canon together with the development of the methods employed by the scholarship in relation to Chopin's works through time. The second chapter is concerned with the demonstration of the main notions of five intersectional analyses of The Awakening carried out by Anna Elfenbein, Elizabeth Ammons, Joyce Dyer, Michele Birnbaum, and Dagmar Pegues. Tolle 's non-denominational teachings addressed to anyone looking for a way to break free from the drawbacks that entails today's way of life . Includes biography Eckhart Tolle . There are Tolle explains the main concepts of mind as mind , consciousness , being, ego , emotional body ( pain ), presence , silence, space , acceptance , surrender, awakening and liberation. The Death of the Female Protagonists in The Awakening, "The Yellow Wallpaper" and The House of Mirth, and Its Realistic Foundations.

Thesis abstract This thesis analyzes the theme of death not only as the internal struggle of a certain individual, but follows its development with respect to society and the pressure that society places on the individual in question. The main foci of the analysis are Kate Chopin"s The Awakening, Edith Wharton"s The House of Mirth, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman"s "The Yellow Wallpaper". Literary typology is emphasized as a tool for creating contrasts in specific conceptions of the deaths of the women protagonists, and for facilitating an understanding of the basic framework of the individual novels. Chopin, Wharton and Gilman conceptualize death, as a complex phenomenon, in a broad perspective, not perceiving it exclusively as an end to physical existence but also as a reflection of the struggle between, on the one hand, external elements that are social, economic and familial in nature, and on the other, the sum of internal elementspredispositions, wants, imaginations and ideals. The thesis analyzes the impact that this struggle has on the perception of the heroines' own identities. The erosion of their original identity and the effort to cope with the problem is not only a direct precursor of a "traditional" death but also allows an understanding of this phase as "metaphorical" death. Buddha´s Dharma Reflected in His Life, Comparison of Chosen Biographies of Gautama Buddha

My thesis deals with Buddha´s life and message. I compare the approaches of four authors who wrote monographies on Buddha´s life and philosophy. K. Armstrong, former catholic cloistress, interprets Buddha from the Christian position of love and compassion and sees Buddha´s contribution mainly in suppression of egoism. E. Bondy, Marxist philosopher, emphesises the racional and practical aspect of Buddha´s message but criticises mystical aspects of his teaching. M. Carrithers, anthropologist and religionist, analyses the origin of desire leading to suffering and the way out of suffering through vip assana meditation. V. Zotz, Austrian historian and philosopher, analyzes the principle of samsara and sees Buddha as a helping pilgrim, who applied his dharma in solving people´s problems. Except to Bondy´ book I find all the works very interesting and inspiring, because they enrich Buddha´s teaching in their own original way.
